A mounted bearing is two parts: the housing bolted to the machine and the insert that runs on the shaft. This category lists the inserts on their own, for replacing the bearing without the housing, together with cartridge units, which put an insert in a plain cylindrical housing that presses or slides into a bored hole in the customer's own frame. The ball bearing inserts are Sealmaster Gold Line and PN Gold and Browning units, with setscrew, concentric or eccentric locking and a spherical or cylindrical outer race depending on the housing they fit. The tapered roller RCI and ERCI cartridge inserts serve the Sealmaster RPB mounted roller line.

| Specification | What it means |
|---|---|
| Bore size | The shaft the insert fits, listed in inches and in millimeters. Sealmaster inch inserts encode the bore in sixteenths after the series digit. |
| Housing type | Insert only, ER-style insert with a snap-ring groove, or a cylindrical cartridge, which says what the part is made to fit. |
| Outer race profile | Spherical for a self-aligning seat in a mounted housing, cylindrical for a straight bore. |
| Shaft locking | Setscrew, double setscrew, concentric Skwezloc, eccentric collar, collar mount or double collar mount. |
| Duty or series | Light, standard, intermediate or medium duty, which fixes the section and the dynamic load rating for a bore. |
| Inner race profile | Wide inner ring, extended to carry the locking device, or narrow inner ring on the few inserts listed with one. |
| Internal clearance | Standard or increased clearance between the balls and the races, increased being listed for higher temperature service. |
An insert is the bearing alone, with its outer race shaped to seat in a mounted housing, and it is what you order to rebuild a pillow block or flange unit. A cartridge unit is an insert already fitted in a plain cylindrical housing, so it is used where the machine frame itself is bored to take the bearing rather than carrying a bolt-on housing.
The catalog table for every Sealmaster mounted unit lists the bearing insert number next to the housing part number, for example a 2-012 insert in an SFT-12 flange. The insert number carries the series digit and the bore in sixteenths, and a -T or -C suffix adds the Skwezloc collar or a contact seal, so the replacement is ordered by that number rather than by measuring the old bearing.
The standard-duty SC series runs from 1/2 inch through 2 15/16 inch and from 20 through 75 mm, with reduced-bore R versions at 1 1/4 and 2 inch, in a cast iron cylindrical cartridge rated -20 to 220 degrees F with a felt seal and an optional contact seal. Sizes from 2 11/16 inch upward come with an axial groove on the outer diameter as standard.
When the housing is a Sealmaster RPB, RFB or RFP tapered roller unit. The RCI cartridge is the unitized, self-aligning heart of those housings, sealed and lubricated from the factory with double locking collars, and the ERCI is its expansion counterpart. Both fit every housing style in the line and are changed in the split housing without removing the base.
